School Structure
Location
The school is located at two sites within five minutes of each other. This division has enabled the school to make the best use of its space and to create excellent learning facilities.
The environment is calm and welcoming and pupils move around easily and safely. Staff teach at both sites and occasionally pupils join in whole school events or assemblies at either site.
Bar Lane
Our Nursery and Pre-Preparatory age groups are taught at our Bar Lane site where facilities are specially designed and arranged for children up to the age of 7 (Year 2).
At the end of Year 2, pupils transfer automatically into Year 3 and move up to our Leeds Road site. As part of the transition process, Year 2 children are timetabled to have some lessons at the Prep School to familiarize them with it before moving up.
Leeds Road
Our Preparatory section is at Leeds Road where Years 3 to 6 are based. Facilities are excellent with form rooms and specialist rooms, incorporating libraries, hall/gym, ICT suite, science and music rooms.
Nursery
Children may enter our Nursery as soon as they turn 2 years of age. We have 20 full-time places but children may also come part-time, the minimum number of sessions being 3 (a session being 8.00am – 1.00pm or 1.00pm – 6.00pm). The Nursery is open for 50 weeks of the year, although children may use Nursery in term-time only. All our nursery staff are highly qualified Early Years Practitioners.
We are registered with Ofsted and parents may use nursery and child care vouchers in part payment of fees.
Kindergarten
Children transfer into Kindergarten the term after their 3rd birthday and begin full-time or sessions (minimum 5) are available. Depending on when their birthday falls, a child can spend 3, 4 or 5 terms in Kindergarten before moving up to the Reception class in September after they turn 4. Kindergarten operates in two large spacious areas and can comfortably accommodate up to 30 children. A fully qualified teacher leads Kindergarten and is assisted by highly qualified Early Years Practitioners.
Facilities
Nursery and Kindergarten have full access to the school’s excellent facilities and help and advice from the specialist teachers.
Reception – Year 6
We are a one form entry school so from Kindergarten children are placed with a form teacher in Reception who teaches them for the majority of the curriculum. Each year they move up to a new teacher. Increasingly, specialist teachers become involved and we are especially happy to be able to provide specialist music, PE and languages (Spanish & Latin) throughout the year groups.
Class Sizes
These are kept small so as to enable every child to benefit from individual teacher time. Small classes also mean that pastoral care is more effective and problems or issues can be spotted and dealt with at an early stage.
